A few weeks ago, I decided to paint three paintings and I had fun making them. I made a cloud painting with a moon, a boho minimalist painting, and a cute collage painting with some of my favorite scenes.
All three of these paintings are great for beginners and you can customize them however you would like.
I'll be sharing how I made these and if you want you can learn how to make these on YouTube right here.
Cloud Painting
For this first painting, you 're going to learn how to make a cloud painting with a moon and stars.
1. The first thing you want to do is that you want to paint your canvas black and then you want to wait for the canvas to dry a little bit before going to the next step.
2. Once the paint has dried a little bit and while its still a little bit wet, you wan to take white paint and paint where you want your clouds to be with circular and tapping motions. Make sure you leave a spot for a moon!
3. Now when the first layer is dry, you want to go back over where you want the highlights of the clouds to be with the same circular tapping motions and you want to keep layering the paint until you like how it looks.
A few tips I have is that you can lightly tap where you want to fade the clouds and where you want the highlights to have a fuzzy look. Also you want to make make sure you don't add to much because you still want to see the black underneath.
4. When the clouds are dry, you want to cover them with paper and water down some white paint.
5. Then you want to flick the bristles of the paintbrush towards the canvas with your finger to create stars.
6. Once the paint is dry you want to trace a circular object and then you want to outline the moon with a paintbrush that has a little bit of paint on it. If you don't want to make a big moon, you can just paint a tiny moon.
7. Now when you're ready to make craters of the moon, you want to paint in circular motions with a paintbrush that has a little bit of paint on it and for the rest of the moon you can keep layering the paint until you like how it looks but just make sure you don't cover the black completely because you still want to see it under the white. You can also paint a part of the moon that would be behind the clouds.
That's how you make how you can make a cloud painting like mine!
I love how layered the clouds look. If I were to make this again I might make one with a pink or purple sky.
Boho Minimalist Painting
For this next painting, you'll learn how to make a simple painting with line art on top of random shapes.
1. To start this painting, you want to start by painting a canvas any color that you would like. I painted mine white so if I were to mess up I could paint over it with a matching white.
2. When the paint is dry you want to draw where you would like some random shapes with a pencil and then you want to paint these shapes any color that you want. I painted these shapes with three shades of pink.
3. Once the paint is dry you want to draw out whatever you would like with a pencil and then you can outline it with a paint marker or a paintbrush. I decided to draw a sunflower and a butterfly.
4. Before you're done making you're painting, you can you can erase any pencil markings and then you're done making you're own boho minimalist painting like mine.
I love how simple and pretty this painting idea is! My favorite things about it is the colors and how butterfly and sunflower came out.
Collage Painting
For this last painting, you'll be learning how to make a painting that looks like it has pictures on it like a collage.
1. To make this painting you want to cut out a square template from a piece of paper and then you want to trace it more than once on the canvas. You also want to draw borders around the squares.
2. When you're done drawing the borders, you want to paint around the squares with any color of paint.
3. Now once the paint is dry, you can draw out some of your favorite objects or scenes with a pencil and then you can paint them in. I painted a planet, a mountain scene and a hanging plant.
A few tips I have is that you can create stars by flicking the bristles of a paintbrush with watered down paint towards the background and you can also make thin lines with a pen.
4. When the paint is dry, you want to paint the borders and you can also make some doodles around the pictures with a paint marker or with a paintbrush. I made some diamonds and dots to make stars.
That's how you make a collage painting with your favorite objects or scenes!
I'm happy how this painting turned out! I like how the pictures came out on it and how the white stars fill up the empty space around the pictures.
Final Thoughts
Which painting is your favorite? I love how each one came out and I think my favorite has to be the cloud painting or the boho minimalist painting. I also love how each one could be customized with it's own colors and designs.
